Quick Start Guide
Help for Veil 3.5.0. The App Store edition is being prepared.
Installation and versions
The App Store edition is being prepared. After release, use the store link on this site to install Veil and get updates from the App Store. Veil requires macOS 13+; desktop widgets require macOS 14+.
Preview and Apply
Click 'Preview 8 sec' in Style Library to test. Click 'Set as Default' to save your setup; shortcuts and desktop switches will use this default.
Set Return Method
Set an app password, hold a key, any key, or move the mouse in General Settings. Passwords save locally; Mac system passwords are never asked. Mouse/any key modes have anti-touch protection.
Forgot Password or Key
Click the cover and hold 'Emergency Return' for 3 seconds to force close. Your password and settings remain safe; reset them after returning to the desktop.
Desktop Switch and Shortcuts
The desktop switch can be moved, resized, or hidden. Default shortcut is ⌃⌥⌘L, changeable in settings. System widgets require macOS 14+.
Screenshots and Permissions
Screen Recording is only for the Screenshot theme. Denying it won't affect other looks. Captures stay in RAM and are released when the cover ends. Imported images remain local.
Free features and Pro
Core features are free, including main-display or all-display coverage. Pro is an optional one-time purchase for extra switches and customization. Apple StoreKit handles purchases, restores and entitlement updates.
Security Boundaries
Veil is a visual cover, NOT a macOS lock replacement. Force Quit, system interfaces or app-window capture may bypass it. Code and office screens use fake content and never read your real files.
Feedback Instructions
When reporting issues, include your macOS version, display count, and steps. NEVER send screenshots containing personal privacy or passwords.
